146Experimental Investigation of a Effects of a Plant Based Additive on the Rheological Properties of Bentonite Mud Contaminated by Salt


Abstract:

Drilling fluid has a significant role in success of drilling operation. The simplest drilling fluid is mixture of bentonite and water which is called bentonite mud. Bentonite mud is used to drill top section of well. The quality of makeup water is an important and effective parameter in rheological properties of bentonite mud. This paper investigates the effect of NaCl, KCl, MgCl2, and CaCl2 on rheology of bentonite suspension at room condition. Results from test showed that salt and Oak effect on rheology of bentonite mud act in same direction and decrease rheology. Addition of Oak to bentonite mud contaminated by divalent cations does not change its rheological properties. The results of tests show that Oak act as a natural deflocculant.
